Democrat Tim Mahoney has allegedly paid a bribe of over $100,000 to keep a sex scandal quite. Mahoney then fired the woman. There are questions of what Democrat leaders knew about it and if they were involved in the payoff and cover up.

The House passed the $700 billion bailout bill for investment companies, banks and foreigners holding bad mortgage loans and possibly other debts; and the President signed it shortly after. The stock market dropped soon after the bill passed and then fell near the close of trading with the Dow down 157. Some thought the bailout bill would help the stock market but the Dow also fell the day after the Senate passed it. A concern is that the bailout is a budget buster which can weigh on the economy and the ability for the private sector to get loans, exactly what the supporters of the bailout said the bill would prevent.

The US Senate passed the bailout bill after adding some features that are expected to gain votes in the House. The Senate vote was 75 yea to 24 opposed with some in each party voting against. The House will now take up the bill and it’s expected they will vote on Friday. After the stunning defeat on Monday, people are cautious to claim it will pass but by including some measures such as raising the FDIC coverage to $250,000 per individual from $100,000 as well as some tax breaks, many expect the House to pass the bailout bill.

The moderator Gwen Ifill for the Vice Presidential debate between Palin and Biden has a pro-Obama book to be released during the inauguration if Obama is elected. Gwen Ifill would sell more books and profit if Obama wins. It’s unknown if she will step down after this revelation that brings into question the ethics of a moderator having a financial stake in the election outcome.
